Drake a discharged marine at the right place at the right time for Hannah. A marriage agreement living together but separate lives they both fall for each other but don't discuss it. Both ready to walk away a psycho ex has them finally opening up. Loved the plot but execution almost lost me. Drake and Hannah are good for each other.
This is a very difficult review for me to write. I loved the story line, thus the 3 stars, but the entire book left me thinking "What?" The writing left me flat. The story was presented like a narrative by one who was not involved with either the H or the h. Where was the sexual tension? Where was the attraction to the other? None of this was indicated. Over 30% into the book and the H and h were making statements about their growing feelings for the other, but there was no evidence of where these feelings were coming from. There was virtually no interaction between the H and h that the reader was privy to so these feelings were coming out of nowhere! Even cohabitating, they were living like strangers. No getting to know one another or discussing their pasts as part of the process of growing closer. I had a hard time with this and it made their relationship unbelievable.I almost put the book down a couple times as I just wasn't feeling it, but I ended up sticking with it. Things did get better closer to the end, but by that time I just wanted to see how it ended and not so much that I was enjoying the read.I gave this book 3 stars because, again, I did enjoy the story line. It was a fake fiancé/husband trope presented in a bit of a different manner, which kept it interesting enough to finish. I did like both the characters of the H and h and felt they were a good match. I just wish me, the reader, could have been privy to their journey to find their HEA.I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Larkyn is graduating college in a couple weeks and wants to find a man so she is not innocent anymore. She goes to a party with her best friend and catches the eyes of Sebastian King who is a notorious playboy. Just when she is about to lose her innocence, his brother Kade stops it from happening. She is walking home when she is hit by a car Sebastian is driving drunk in and she is in critical condition. Kade rushes her to the hospital where they fix her. He offers her whatever she wants to make up for what they did to her so she asks him to take her to her graduation party at her parents’ house. He sees how they treat her horribly so he asks her to pretend marry him and they sign a contract.Rules are not to fall in love one another, he acts like a jerk, they can have sex but the rest of the time he is to treat her as a roommate. There are many steamy scenes in the book and they do fall in love with one another. Larkyn shared a deep dark secret with Kade..she was attacked at 19. The attacker shows up in Kade’s bar and tries to take advantage of her, but Kade stops it! Then she discovers she is pregnant and overhears a conversation with another woman and Kade..she leaves. After she moves out, Kade found his brother and her in business together but that her attacker is out on bail. He goes to stay with her so she does not get attacked. Her attacker shows up! What happens? Does he attack her again? Will help arrive in time to save her and the baby? Will Kade and her get their chance at a HEA? He entered the military as the only way to make money for his wife, Anna Marie, who wanted to be a model. The two were high school sweethearts and married after high school. They struggled to make ends meet, so joining the military was the only way to get the kind of cash that Anna needed to become a model, her dream job. Drake enlisted for 4 years but the money just wasn't enough for Anna Marie, so he joined for another 4 years and then another 4 but was shot into the 2nd year this round and was discharged. Nothing was enough for Anna Marie as they fought constantly. Drake even had his best friend check in on her to make sure she was doing okay while he was away. They day he returned home reality struck him hard. Anna Marie had run off with his best friend and left him for good. Drake was furious and swore off all women until one night out with his friends, he sees a beautiful woman who needs his help.Hannah comes from a very wealthy family but they've never been close. Her parents are wealthy snobs from Chicago and Hannah wants to help the poor at risk youth of the city. She is in college and refuses their money since they don't approve of her wanting to help the poor. Hannah has finally broken up with her ex Brandon, who used to be a cop but got caught doing things that are unacceptable when being a police officer. He became a bum living off of Hannah and then he began abusing her. Hannah finally kicks him to the curb and her friends have invited her out for a relaxing night to get away from her stalking ex and her studies. Her ex arrives at the club and becomes irritated that she keeps shooting down his advances. Danger is about to happen when a stranger saves her. His name is Drake.After being saved by Drake, Hannah makes the comment that her ex might leave her alone if she were married. He would have to stop stalking her right? Drake agrees that it might work, so the two set up a plan to fool Brandon and her family so that she can be in peace. Will Drake and Hannah be able to act as a married couple without getting their hearts involved? Read this great story to find out what happens when their plan falls apart.
