Having visited DC for the first time in four decades, I relied upon online travel venues to glean information about sites I wanted to experience. Big mistake! Upon returning, I purchased a used copy of this book through Amazon at a serious discount. The photo quality is superior, some taken from vantage points not possible with a standard camera lens. All photos depict clear skies, perfect weather, and at many sites the ubiquitous cherry blossoms.There are many sites not properly identified on online travel venues, like TripAdvisor. Example: "The House Where Lincoln Died" is across the street from Ford's Theatre, but is labeled "Peterson's Boarding House." Although that building was Petersen's [this is the correct spelling] Boarding House, the National Park sign clearly states "The House Where Lincoln Died". I had no way of knowing to search for Peterson/Petersen.For future travel experiences, I intend to purchase through Amazon pictorials of those destinations, so that I can better schedule the limited time available.

It's been years since I've visited the nation's capital, and, even if I were a resident, it's unlikely that I would ever take a tour as comprehensive as that offered by this book. Fogle and Penn's "Washington D.C." strikes a perfect balance between text and images. The book is also equally measured in its feast of patriotic and aesthetic insights."Washington, D.C." is divided into thirteen chapters, which cover everything from outdoor parks to federal bureaucratic buildings. The style, materials, and intent behind almost every structure is given in lucid detail. The author(s) are also quite good at dropping in an occasional anecdote that enlightens and entertains.I learned quite a few new things about our nation's capital, and its architects. I would recommend this book to general readers, and, since it's quite accessible, I'd say it would be a good addition to any library catering to everything to an elementary to a post-secondary audience. And at roughly $10 (at least for Amazon Prime members), it's a steal.
Didn't get to see everything we wanted to on our trip to DC last week....this book has it all. Took a lot of pictures with my boys....the pictures in this book are absolutely gorgeous. Great historical facts as well. It is a nice big book for such a little price....very surprised. Highly recommend this book!
If you're looking for fantastic photos of Washington, DC, keep on looking. While a few of the photos are very nice, most are snapshot quality, while a few are worse: out of focus, uneven (not artistically, just sloppily), or merely documentary in nature, with little or no effort given to make them pop.
My thirteen year old grandson had just been to Washington with his classmates. He was able to look at all the places he visited and some he didn't. It helped him realize how important this trip was. Good Book
I have given dozens of copies of this book to international visitors and guests coming to Washington, DC. It is a fabulous takeaway for visitors to tuck in their suitcase and pull out when they return home and recapture the memories of a great trip to a beautiful city. This book is a good overview and a super souvenir.
We were in D.C. this month and wanted a coffee table book about the place. I couldn't find anything like this in the museums we visited. This was a great book at a great price, I'm happy with the purchase!
