A GREAT children's book that entertains and enlightens children, as well as adults. Maria Godsey uses clever rhyming, imagery and storytelling, wrapped in colorful and lively illustrations, to convey a simple, yet important message; responsibility starts with an idea, and one simple action and from there can grow like an acorn into an Oak. Not only will young readers identify with this wonderful book, but Mom, Dad, Teachers and all adults who read it are sure to find themselves smiling, while also doing some important thinking. "Not for me, please! I choose to act green," is a wonderful addition to any child's bookshelf. Can't wait to read more from this new author!
Great book to teach kids about responsibility and the environment through an engaging and relatable story. I particularly liked the dual layer approach with additional, relevant, information at the bottom of each page that gives more specific details if needed, but if not you can just focus on the story itself.Also beautifully illustrated, if you're interested in this topic and discussing with your kids highly recommended.
I have grandchildren that live in Europe, and they are very conscientious about recycling, reusing, and all the trash that is thrown away and finds its way into lakes and various places. My grandchildren who live in the United States are not as aware of recycling and reusing. I was searching for a book that would help my grandchildren be more aware of making the earth a better place. This is the perfect book to help children understand how recycling, reducing, and reusing are very important. The illustrations are great and the rhyming text is very easy for children to listen to. The interesting facts at the bottom of some pages really do help explain more to the children and answer their questions. All of my grandchildren love this book, including the ones that live in Europe. I highly recommend this book and will get a copy for each of my grandchildren’s classrooms.
Great book. Easy to read and beautifully illustrated. the story is inspiring and very well written for children. The facts at the bottom of the pages are great teaching points for children and parents. The illustrations go well with each page. Questions at end of the book add to the teaching. I bought this for a 7yo on the advice of a friend...the whole family loved it. The message was simple, and well-articulated for younger and older children alike. Thought provoking questions at the end, and factoids included throughout, sparked some good conversations with our son, who now thinks of doing his part as the actions of a superhero...couldn't ask for anything more!
Enjoyed reading with my kids very much. Started a much larger discussion on how to be good and respectful, not just green. My kids enjoyed identifying with all the green things we do already and daddy really enjoyed pointing out the things they don't (like lights and TV's left on everywhere) ;-). Since it's a book that contains many things kids can relate to everyday they identify as Luke easily and stay engaged through the full story. We have even revisited several pages to talk about certain things.
Our son (sixteen-months-old) loves this book and we really appreciate the focus on protecting the environment. This is a great book for parents and caregivers who care about the future of the planet. There aren't many books like this in the young reader category. Highly recommended as a gift or for your own children!
This is my new gift for young mothers, grandmothers, teachers and the world. The lessons of the book can benefit anyone of any age as they are presented in a fun rhyming way for youngsters and yet, there is also serious teachable information presented that benefits any age. The illustrations are beautiful too.
